Frequently
Asked Questions
We would
like to welcome you to the Cloudcroft Light Opera Company’s
Frequently Asked Questions page. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit
community theatre company. As an introduction to our group,
we offer answers to some frequently asked questions
concerning our activities.
A:
Yes and no. CLOC melodramas are free. However, we do pass a
hat at intermission for donations. For CLOC murder mysteries
tickets are required. The ticket prices are usually no more
than $20 per person.
We
are always looking for people to help either on stage or
behind the scenes. The best way to become a part is to come
to a monthly meeting and join the company.
No.
We do not accept unsolicited play submissions.
We
very rarely have general auditions. Community-specific
auditions for community members are announced on our webpage
and our social media sites. We generally do not actively seek
professional actors for our productions.
If
you are interested in working with us for a community event,
please email us at cloudcroftlightoperaco@gmail.com. CLOC is
committed to working with organizations in the Sacramento
Mountains and Tularosa Basin area dedicated to promoting
education, the arts or tourism.
Since
our “actors” are volunteers living in the
Cloudcroft area, touring our productions is not an option.
PURCHASING
A TICKET
All
upcoming and currently playing productions, their performance
dates, location(s), and scheduled start time(s) can be found
on our website or on our Facebook page.
Ticket
prices vary for our productions. CLOC melodramas are free.
However, we do pass a hat at intermission for donations. For
CLOC murder mysteries tickets are required. The ticket prices
are usually no more than $20 per person. Please see the
specific show’s webpage for more information.
“Pass
the hat” means you pay whatever you feel you can
financially afford. If you want to come to a melodrama and
pay nothing that is completely acceptable.
Acting
lessons! Not really. CLOC provides five $500 scholarships
each year to seniors from Cloudcroft, Tularosa or Alamogordo
High Schools. We are also involved in Dolly Parton’s
Imagination Library for children living in the 88317 zip
code. To see more about this program visit the Imagination
Library webpage (www.imaginationlibrary.com). Additionally,
each year CLOC performs a murder mystery to benefit a
Cloudcroft Schools organization.
ATTENDING
A MELODRAMA
We
make every effort to accommodate the needs of every patron
and assist those patrons with physical challenges with
getting into our pavilion facility. If you have specific
needs when arriving for a melodrama, please alert the Welcome
Committee and we will attempt to accommodate you as best we
can.
Due
to the set up of the open-air pavilion assisted listening
devices are not available. If you have concerns regarding
your enjoyment of the performance please alert the Welcome
Committee and we will attempt to accommodate you as best we
can.
All
of our melodrama seating is on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Guests can “reserve” their own seats
beginning at 6:30 on performance nights. We do encourage fans
to arrive approximately 30-45 minutes prior to our 7:30 start
time to ensure they receive a seat under the pavilion –
and near the heaters.
We
try our best to accommodate everyone who wishes to see the
performance. However, we cannot promise a seat to anyone who
arrives late. One side of the Pavilion is open to allow
overflow seating on the lawn, so our shows are never really
“sold out.”
We
have a concession stand called the Rubber Chicken that sells
sodas, popcorn and candy for $1 each. Some nights cheese
nachos are available for $3 per plate. Alcohol is prohibited
on Village property.
Yes.
Recording devices are allowed at all our productions.
No.
Our mailing address is: PO Box 1166, Cloudcroft, NM
88317-1166.
At
this time, the answer is no. However, we are looking into the
possibility of making this an option. If you would like to
receive information on CLOC until we have our mailing list
available we recommend you “like” our Facebook
page at www.facebook.com/cloudcroftlightoperaco to stay up to
date on our events.
There
might not be an answer, but if you like please contact us at
cloudcroftlightoperaco@gmail.com or
info@cloudcrofttheatre.com and we will be more than happy to
give you some kind of answer.
